Houston's Black country revival is rewriting the frontier.

When Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter sparked debate about Black artists' place in country music, Houston already had its answer. A new generation of artists — rooted in Black rodeos, trail rides, and Southern ranching life — have been quietly building a movement that the charts are only beginning to catch up to.

Ahsaki LaFrance-Chachere, an eighth-generation rancher of Native American and Black heritage, and her husband Dennis Chachere, a third-generation Houston cowboy, founded LaChachere Music Group after seeing Black and Indigenous artists signed to major labels — their records sitting on a shelf, never reaching the audiences they deserved.

From Acres Homes to South Park, country music is part of Houston's DNA. Artists like Caleb James and Tavia Brooks are proving it — one stage, one sold-out show at a time.
